The mission of the Syracuse University Computing
Incident Response Team (SUCIRT) is to ensure the continued integrity of
the Syracuse University Computer System, which includes computers,
communications networks, computer accounts, Web pages, network access,
central computing and telecommunications facilities, and related
services. SUCIRT will prioritize levels of severity regarding network
system compromises and/or vulnerabilities and notify affected
departments and/or system administrators when such a breach is
identified. SUCIRT will advise and coordinate efforts with those
affected, identify specific tasks to be accomplished, and follow up.

One of the goals of the Syracuse University Office of Audit and Management Advisory Services
(AMAS) is to help protect the confidentiality and integrity of Syracuse
University's computer resources and data. Protecting these computing
resources, however, is ultimately the responsibility of each user of the
University's computer systems and data. While many controls and security
features are built into the University's computer systems, they can be
weakened if the users of the systems do not follow good computing
control practices and guidelines.
AMAS has prepared a
number of computing control and data security related documents for your
